No-Till Drills
The goal of this rental program is to support farmers in adopting a no-till crop production system that includes the use of cover crops. The District offers an affordable and well-maintained no-till drill for rent, along with service and technical assistance for farmers interested in using the equipment or trying out no-till methods.
In August 2014, the Conservation District purchased a 10-foot John Deere 1590 No-Till Drill with grant funds received through the PA Department of Environmental Protection’s Chesapeake Bay Program, and began renting the drill out to interested farmers in Fulton County. The program has proven successful, and the drill was replaced in 2018 and again in 2021.
In September 2023, the Conservation District acquired a second drill: a 12-foot Esch 5612 No-Till Drill with a transport width of 8 feet 10 inches. The Esch drill features hydraulic controls that enable you to switch easily from transport to planting mode. If you have any questions about operating the drill, please refer to the attached manual or feel free to ask during delivery.
Manure Spreader
The Conservation District offers a manure spreader for rent to help local farmers and small-acreage landowners improve soil health and manage nutrients responsibly. The program provides affordable access to equipment that can make applying manure more efficient and help farmers get the most value from this important resource.
In 2025, the Conservation District purchased a Pik Rite HR250 Hydra-Ram Manure Spreader. This heavy-duty manure spreader has a capacity of roughly 223 cubic feet and a load-carrying capacity of 6.5 tons. An 85-hp tractor or greater is recommended.
