There are approximately 168,000 acres of publicly and privately owned forestland in Fulton County. Like construction activities and agricultural plowing and tilling, timber harvesting is regulated by the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Loggers are required, at a minimum, to implement and maintain erosion and sediment control Best Management Practices (BMPs) to minimize potential impacts to local waterways. Timber harvesting activities that disturb greater than 5,000 square feet are required to develop a written Erosion and Sediment (E&S) Control Plan; click on the attachment below. The District strongly encourages loggers and/or foresters to contact the District prior to the timber harvesting activity to schedule a site visit or for assistance in developing the E&S Plan.

In addition to a written E&S Plan, permits may need to be obtained for temporary (GP-8) and/or permanent (GP-7) stream crossings. These applications are submitted to the DEP Southcentral Regional Office for approval; click on the permit application packages listed below.
